Albany - Tthe South Georgia Peanuts are ready to open their first ever spring training camp Tuesday morning at the Paul Eames Complex.
The players reported for camp on Monday as manager Wally Backman has a full schedule since the inaugural South Coast League season begins next week.
The Peanuts will work out daily this week before hosting Macon in an exhibition game Friday at the Eames Complex.
For veterans and rookies, the opening of spring training is full of excitement especially in a new league.
Outfielder Travis Hundley said "I am pretty excited. This is my first time in professional baseball. So, I am kind new to everything. I don't know really what to expect. There is excitement and nervousness I guess."
Catcher Tug Gillingham said "It is kind of cool to be with an organization that is just starting out. It is kind of like laying the groundwork for many years to come."
South Georgia Peanuts open the season May 18th at Charlotte County Florida.
The home opener is May 24th at the Eames Complex.
