Flowers Ready to Bloom for VSU

May 6, 2007

Valdosta -- The Valdosta State golf team begins its bid for a national championship Monday, as the Blazers open play in the Division II Super Regionals.

VSU and 16 other teams playing in a 3-day tournament at the Robert Trent Jones "Shoals" course in Florence, Alabama.

While the Blazers are hoping for their first national championship, junior Jason Flowers is shooting for his second.

The Moultrie native was a part of the Darton College team that won the NJCAA national title in 2005.

Valdosta State finished second at last week's Gulf South Conference tournament, with Flowers leading the way.

The junior finished tied for first at six-under par, his 2nd tournament win this season.

Flowers says winning another national championship would be special, and he still follows his old team.

"I keep a watch on (Darton), they've been playing really well," says Flowers. "They head off to nationals in two weeks. So hopefully we'll be playing nationals here at Valdosta, and they'll be playing nationals up at Darton. Two national championships? I don't think too many people can say that, so that'd be great."

The National Championships will be held the 22nd to the 25th at The Meadows in Allendale, Michigan.
