Albany - Sherwood Christian Academy pitcher Jason Townsend plans to sign with Chipola Junior College next Thursday.
The hard throwing right hander made the non-binding verbal commitment on Tuesday.
Townsend says he picked Chipola because the school has a reputation for sending pitchers to Division I colleges and into the major league draft.
The Marianna, Florida school is also close to his Albany home.
Townsend was 6-2 his senior season at Sherwood Christian and struck out 88 of the 152 batters he faced.
He allowed just three extra base hits in 48 innings of work and his earned run avearge is .729.
Professional scouts are also very interested but Jason says his plans are to pitch next season at Chipola.
