Valdosta -- The Valdosta States men's tennis team struggled early in the season, suffering through a rash of injuries, but finished out on a high note, winning 14 of 16 matches and their first Gulf South Conference title in three years.
The Lady Blazers have played strong throughout, with 15 wins and a perfect conference record.
Valdosta State will be hosting both the men's and women's regional tournaments for just the second time this year.
The Lady Blazers are currently ranked fourth in the nation, and are very confident headed into regionals.
"I expect we're going to win, and we're going to nationals," says freshman Natali Gumbrecht. "I am really looking forward to the nationals because I think it's going to be a very good tournament."
Head coach John Hanson adds, "Tt should be very exciting. Our women will be fairly heavy favorites to win the regional, the men will be slight favorites."
The men are the defending Division II national champions.
The Region winners advance to the national tournament next weekend in Orlando.
