Albany -- Arson is suspected in a vacant house fire in Central Albany Tuesday morning. Investigators say it was intentionally set.

Albany firefighters battled the fire that raced through the old home in the 600 block of North Jefferson about 9:30 Tuesday morning. Firefighters had six trucks respond to the blaze, which spread quickly through the more than 50 year old wooden structure.

Investigators found a pile of yard material under the back staircase that was intentionally set on fire, so they have ruled it an arson. Neighbors say vagrants have been going in and out of the house in recent weeks, but Monday the home was boarded up to keep them out.

The fire spread through the first two floors, and then into the attic, making it an unusual three story blaze.
