Albany - The South Georgia Peanuts have signed former Georgia catcher Doc Brooks.
Brooks, who hit 45 career home runs with the Bulldogs, played for Peanuts manager Wally Backman in 2004 when Backman was managing Arizona's minor league team in Lancaster California.
Doc Broosk said βI love his intensity. He knows how to win. He knows a lot about the game,β Brooks said. βHe has a lot to offer his players.β
Brooks was selected by the San Diego Padres in the seventh round of the 2001 Major League Draft.
He was released by the Colorado Rockies this spring.
The Peanuts also annoucing they are holding an open tryout Saturday morning at the Paul Eames Complex.
Registration starts at 8:00 a.m. and there is a $40 fee.
