Tifton  --  DOT Anticipates Closing Several State Routes in Atkinson, Berrien, Lanier, Cook, Clinch, Lowndes, Brooks, and Echols Counties.

The Georgia Department of Transportation anticipates closing several state routes in an eight county area due to smoke from a fire in Atkinson County.  It is possible; State Routes in these eight counties could be closed in the next few hours. As of 3:00pm on Monday, April 30, 2007, all routes were still open.

The Georgia Department of Transportation seeks to provide information to the traveling public about traffic obstructions on Georgia's interstates and State Routes in order that motorists may travel safely and efficiently on our systems. 

Drivers are encouraged to use the services provided at GDOT's Traffic Management Center.  Operators are on duty 24/7 to provide traffic information, answer questions and alert motorists to any traffic interruptions that may occur.
