East Albany fire set intentionally

April 30, 2007

Albany -- Arson investigators say a fire in a garage behind an East Albany house was intentionally set.

The early Sunday morning fire destroyed the large garage behind the house in the 300 block of Elsom Street. Firefighters say it appears vagrants had been staying in the garage, and set it on fire.

There have been a number of fires recently that Investigators think were set by homeless or vagrants, and firefighters say it can be a danger to the community. Deputy Chief David Eddins said "it puts people's lives in danger. The people that are even in there, they fall asleep, or are overcome by the smoke. It puts their life in danger as well."

Firefighters say if you see suspicious persons in a house or building that should be vacant, to call Police.
