Ashes found on murder victim

April 30, 2007

Albany -- Albany Police are still investigating the city's third murder of the year, a 63 year old disabled man who was found in his East Albany home Saturday with his throat cut.

George Ponder's body was found in a pool of blood in the living room of his Shirley Avenue home.  His body was lying partially on his sofa and partially on the floor. His girlfriend, Eula Billings discovered his body.

Police officers say there was a burned magazine on the sofa, and ashes on Ponder's arm.

The report says Ponder went to the Doctor with his sister Thursday, and then talked with a cousin Friday afternoon.

Investigators say they are still looking into this murder, but would give no information about a suspect or a motive in Ponder's death.
