Augusta- The Deerfield-Windsor Lady Knights are GISA AAA state tennis champions for a third time in the last four years.
The Lady Knights edged rival Augusta Prep 3-2 in the finals Wednesday afternoon in Augusta.
The Lady Knights beat Atlanta Girls School 3-0 in the semifinals.
Ironically, Deerfield-Windsor has beaten Augusta Prep in the finals for all three of their state titles.
Augusta Prep knocked off the Lady Knights two years ago in the semifinals en route to their state championship.
The team title this year for Deerfield-Windsor comes one week after the Lady Knights' Taylor Hawke and Haley Fulford won the AAA individual doubles title.
The news was not so good for other area teams at the GISA state tennis tournament.
Southland boys lost 3-2 to North Cobb Christian in the semifinals.
In AA, Brookwood boys bid for a second state title was thwarted by Heritage which won 4-1 in the finals.
Heritage swept the state titles with the girls beating Valwood 3-2 for a second straight year.
In Class A, Westwood boys fall 3-2 to Robert Toombs and Oak Mountain beats Fullington 3-2 to win the girls state tennis title.
