Dropout rates decline sharply

April 25, 2007

Albany - Programs to decrease the number of dropouts at Dougherty County Schools are working. During last school year there were 308 dropouts, but that dropped to 190 during the same period this year.

Renee Bridges said, "The dropouts have decreased tremendously and I would like to contribute that to the Georgia graduation coaches that are in place who are giving extra support. "

Mobility issues, with children moving from school to school does continue to be a problem. Teachers say when students are constantly moving around it disrupts class time for them and their classmates.
