Albany-- A truck accident caused a power outage in Albany Tuesday night. A Georgia Power spokesman tells us a crash involving a dump truck brought down a major transmission line on U.S. Highway 19 at 9:17.

It happened just north of the Procter and Gamble plant in the southbound lanes. The lines were still draped across the highway and traffic was slowed nearly two hours later.

Georgia Power said about 2,000 customers were initially without power, but Albany Police say they got numerous calls about power outages on all sides of town. We also know the outage went up Highway 19 well into Lee County. Georgia Power hoped to have everyone back on line by midnight.
