Gun found at Turner Job Corps

April 20, 2007

Albany--A student at Turner Job Corps is kicked out of school after bringing a handgun on campus.

Wednesday night, a student discovered an unloaded 25-caliber semi automatic pistol in shrubbery behind two student dorms and immediately contacted campus security.

They turned the gun over to police.

After questioning several students, school administrators expelled the student they believe is responsible.

Center director Steven Belk wants parents to know the school is looking after the students' best interests.

"I really want to assure the parents we're hiring quality staff like Chief Johnson, his years of experience as a former chief of police, is training his security staff as well as other center staff about the importance of safety," sas Steven Belk.

So far, there have been no arrests, but the investigation continues.
