Bus fire started by vagrants

April 16, 2007

Albany -- The owner of an Albany auto repair shop thinks vagrants trying to stay warm set an old school bus behind her business on fire Sunday night.

Arson investigators told Shirley Evans that they don't think anyone set the bus on fire on purpose. The bus was parked behind Evans Auto Service on Seventh Avenue.

Firefighters were called about 7:20 Sunday night to put out the fire in the bus. The bus was destroyed, and two other junk cars parked close by were damaged.

Evans says vagrants often get into the cars and bus to stay warm.
