Waycross -- A huge wild fire is threatening several homes and has shut down traffic in the area.

Traffic on Highway 84 between Manor Millwood Road and New Mexico Avenue is blocked in all directions. The Georgia State Patrol is now directing traffic toward Highway 122.

The fire started Monday morning and is still blazing through Wahoma and Ruskin. We are getting reports that this fire has destroyed at least one home, damaged several others and is now threatening an elementary school.

Fire officials say the blaze is so big and being rapidly fanned by the wind that they are unsure of when they might be able to contain it.
