Poulan officials injured in wreck

April 12, 2007

Sylvester --   A serious wreck on Highway 82 in Sylvester involves the City of Poulan's Police Chief. The chief, Angie Schlosser, and another city employee were rushed to the hospital with the city worker in critical condition.

Schlosser was leaving lunch with Poulan's water clerk and court clerk around two this afternoon, when the driver of a black GMC pick up truck hit Schlosser's bumper. Schlosser's vehicle flipped and court clerk Sharon West was thrown out. West was rushed to Phoebe Putney in critical condition.

Schlosser was also taken to Phoebe.  She was in "good" condition hours after the wreck.

People say the crash backed up traffic on 82 for almost an hour. "I was eating lunch at Burger King with my granddaughter and we saw the police cars and ambulances and fire truck go by, and we began to see how traffic backed up all the way to Dairy Queen," said Pam Johnson.

"I was so far back I knew something had happened and the closer I got, I could see the emergency vehicles. I worked my way up and I pulled over to see exactly what happened," Brenda Daniels said.

The other passenger, water clerk Valerie Merritt went to Phoebe of Worth County for X-rays.  We're told she's okay now.

Poulan's city clerk says by 5:00PM, the police chief had been released from the hospital.  The driver of the black truck was cited in the wreck.
