Trial date set for suspected immigrant killer

April 11, 2007

Tift county - - One of two men charged with killing six Mexican immigrants with guns and baseball bats in 2005 appeared in court Wednesday.

Jamie Underwood is facing the death penalty if he's convicted.

He's charged with a brutal attack that left six people dead in September 2005.

An August 6th trial date has been set for Underwood.

A hearing for Stacey Bernard Sims, the other man charged in these crimes, is expected later this month.

Interestingly, Judge Gary McCorvey suggested to lawyers that they request a change of venue because of pre-trial publicity.
