Wildcats coach will be back for Steeldogs

April 9, 2007

Albany - It was back to work for the South Georgia Wildcats.

Monday is normally a day off for the team.

But not this week with a game on Thursday in Birmingham against the Alabama Steeldogs.

Among those working on the game plan for the Steeldogs is head coach Derek Stingley.

Stingley is in Chicago where funeral services will be held for his father Darryl Stingley Tuesday afternoon.

Unlike last week, Derek Stingley will get to see his players execute his game plan.

The Wildcats confirming that their head coach will re-join the team for Thursday's game against the Steeldogs.

The coach's return should be a big boost to a banged up football team that is facing a gut check in playing on just four days rest.

Assistant head coach Randy Leindecker "He is putting the game plan together in Chicago. He is watching film of Birmingham and he is going to fax us the information that he wants installed and when he gets there Thursday he will fine tune everything."

Wildcats defensive back Roland Cola, who injured a shoulder against Louisville, will play Thursday but quarterback Julian Reese will not.

Reese had an M.R.I. on his injured knee on Monday and will discuss the results with his physician later this week.

The Wildcats fear that Reese has torn his anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee.

If so, Reese will miss the rest of the season.

Reese tore the ACL in the same knee in the next to the game last season.

He played in the Wildcats final game of 2006 and had surgery the following week.
