Albany - Dougherty County EMS moves forward with plans for a new headquarters building. Dougherty County commissioners are finalizing plans to buy land at the corner of Palmyra and 8th Avenue for $308,000.
The new building will replace the current headquarters building at the corner of 2nd and Jefferson Street. EMS Director Bobby Tripp says, "It puts us in an area that we need to be in, close to the hospitals, close to the nursing homes. This area is big enough that we'll be able to have adequate parking and a big building than the one we have right now, because the building we have right now is just too small."
If the sale is finalized, construction should begin in 2009.
