EMA chief works on federal disaster assistance

March 19, 2007

Albany --  When the March 1st tornadoes tore through South Georgia, they spared most of Dougherty County, but not all.

Several homes were damaged, some even destroyed near County Line road. EMA Deputy Director Jim Vaught says he's working on getting financial assistance, like low interest loans for those homeowners.

Over the weekend he took GEMA and FEMA officials on a tour of the area.   "We are now in the process of hoping that FEMA will take that back and use it to make us one of the communities that receives assistance to help those individuals that in fact were damaged," said Vaught.

Ten homes most in the Southeastern area of Dougherty County were damaged.
