Americus --  Motorists trying to navigate through Americus may have a more difficult time, now that the Sheriff has closed down Highway 49 during daylight hours.

Until further notice, Highway 49 will remain closed between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. from Upper River Road to District Line Road.

Sheriff Pete Smith said he ordered ten extra dump trucks in that area to help clear away the heavy amount of debris, and the trucks and traffic don't mix.

To keep everyone safe, only local traffic trying to get to a home will be allowed on the highway. Other drivers should avoid Highway 49.
