Albany -- A former deputy coroner for Dougherty County, who was working as a security guard, was shot and killed early this morning at the Regency Club Apartments in East Albany.
Forty-three-year-old Jack Camp, a member of Albany's Search and Rescue Team and a bounty hunter was patrolling Regency Club Apartments Tuesday night when he saw a suspicious person.
He called 911 and asked for backup, but before they arrived, he was shot.
Camp has strong roots in criminal justice, with two brothers who are also in law enforcement. He was a former deputy coroner for Dougherty County, and had been an EMT.
Camp was shot around 1:00 AM. The only description police has is that the shooter was a short black man. Camp's body has been sent to the Crime lab in Moultrie for examination.
APD held a joint meeting this morning to share information on the case with the Dougherty County Sheriff's Office, Dougherty County Police Department, Dougherty County School Police, and the ADDU.
Anyone with information should call Crime Stoppers at 229-436-TIPS, or the Albany Police Department at 229-431-2100 .
