Lee government change may be coming

March 13, 2007

Lee County--  Lee County may not need state approval to adjust its form of government after all.

Some county leaders want to switch from a county administrator to a county manager form of government so county commissioners won't have direct hiring and firing power over county department heads.

An initial effort to introduce local legislation in the General Assembly failed because not all county commissioners were behind it.

The county attorney says a local ordinance may be enough. He drafted one that commissioners may vote on in two weeks.
