Americus --  More than one thousand volunteers are expected to arrive this weekend in Americus to help with the storm cleanup.

Friday, crews were prepping the Americus, Sumter County High School North Campus.  Tarps were laid on the gym floor and cots will be brought in.

Volunteer groups are encouraged to register with the city and county at the staging area, the Fire Department on South Lee Street.

"They're going ahead and lining everyone up with gloves, garbage bags, whatever their needs may be in order to make sure this effort is a success, and we just can't thank everyone enough," said PIO GEMA, Sheriff liaisonTracy Smith.

Volunteer organization can spend the night at the High School North Campus because housing is limited.  The school has shower facilities and plenty of parking to accommodate all of the heavy machinery that may accompany volunteers.
