Americus -- The Internal Revenue Service announced special tax relief for Sumter County taxpayers.
The I.R.S. Extended the deadline for filing federal tax returns to April 30th for people who live in Sumter County, because they live in the Presidential Disaster Area struck by tornadoes March 1st.
The tax agency will not charge any penalty or interest for Sumter taxpayers during this period.
Taxpayers can also claim the tornado or storm damage as a loss on their 2006 return, even though the storm hit in 2007.
