Americus- The deadly tornado that struck Americus last week left its mark at Georgia Southwestern.
The school canceled a Peach Belt Conference baseball series last weekend.
The GSW athlete didn't just sit around their dorm rooms and apartments.
They got out and helped members of the GSW staff and other Americus residents clean up after the storm.
GSW softball coach Eddie Ward is one of many who had their homes severely damaged last Thursday night.
Ward's Lady Hurricane team played their first home gome on Thursday afternoon since the tornado.
Ward and the team sat in a dugout minus a roof that was ripped off during the storm.
Which also tore the roof off the third base dugout at the GSW baseball field.
The good news for the Lady Hurricanes is they swept UNC-Pembroke in Thursday's doubleheader for their first ever wins against Peach Belt Conference opponents.
The Lady Hurricanes won game one 6-3 and the second game 2-1 on Brandi Pratt's two-run homerun in the bottom of the sixth inning.
The GSW women are 2-6 in the Peach Belt and 8-16 overall.
The Lady Hurricanes next game is Tuesday at Columbus State.
