Albany -- The Albany State men's basketball team made a surprise run through the SIAC tournament, and defeat Fort Valley 54-50 to win the conference championship.
Frank Pinson and Travon McGruder are named to the all-tournament team, with Pinson scoring a game-high 15 points on his way to earning tournament MVP.
As league champs, the Rams (15-16) earn an automatic bid into the national tournament.
Albany State is seeded eighth in the South region, and play at top-seed Montevallo (25-5).
The Valdosta State men (20-8) also made regionals, and will play as the seven-seed in the same bracket as the Rams.
The Blazers taking on Rollins (24-6) in the first round.
The VSU Lady Blazers turn 23-wins into a 4-seed, and take on Tampa (23-7) in the opening round at Florida Gulf Coast.
