Valdosta - Valdosta State started a new era Wednesday morning.
The opening day of spring drils was the first practice for new head coach David Dean.
The Blazer offensive coordinator promoted to head coach almost two months ago when Chris Hatcher was hired at Georgia Southern.
Like Hatcher, Dean also practicing early in the morning to accomodate the class schedule of his players.
VSU returns alot of players from last year's team with 20 starters back.
The new faces are on the coaching staff and there will be adjustment period for both players and coaches this spring.
Dean said "Today was a feeling out period. it was tough mostly for the defense because they pretty much have a whole new staff with the exception of the defensive line. New schemes, new practice procedures and different things like that."
Valdosta State will conclude spring practice with their annual spring game at 1:00 p.m. on March 31st at Bazemore-Hyder Stadium.
