Tift County -- Five hundred and fifty miles of county roads across Georgia will be upgraded with high visibility lines and reflective markers, many in South Georgia.
The road stripes on Upper Ty Ty Road are worn and hard to see. This will be one of the roads slated to be improved in the new ten million dollar program by the Georgia Department of Transportation.
Half of all Georgia's traffic deaths occur on smaller county roads, not the interstates or state routes. The road striping will be done with a new technology paint.
"It features a new paint like resin, designed to last longer. It's easier to see. The mix includes millions of tiny glass beads that double as light reflectors,"Ga. D.O.T. Communications Officer Craig Solomon said.
The new high visibility lines and reflective markers will start to be installed in late summer. There are 58 roads in Dougherty County, and 14 roads in Tift County on the state's list to receive the markings.
