Albany -- Before the start of the season, the Dougherty girls basketball team set a goal of earning one of the region's top two seeds for the state tournament.
The Lady Trojans accomplished that feat, beating Worth County in the region championship game.
Dougherty is now the top-seed in Region 1-AAA, and get to play their first round game at home.
The Lady Trojans were a four-seed last year, losing badly in the opening round to Kendrick, and coach Charlene Jackson says playing as the number one will make a world of difference.
"We like to try and reflect on that game last year only as a motivator to get to where we want to be this year," says Jackson. "It wasn't a very good experience for the girls. We're very happy to be the #1 seed, and just looking at the bracket, hopefully that will be a plus for us."
The Lady Trojans host Mary Persons out of Region 4-AAA Friday at 6pm at Dougherty.
