Tifton - - An Alabama-based university is taking off in our area, opening another satellite campus in South Georgia.

Troy University now has a home in Tifton. The new campus recently had its grand opening and now school leaders are advertising and recruiting new students.

Troy offers bachelor's and master's degrees in the traditional classroom setting and over the internet.

"Students can start in one location with their program and go anywhere in the world and complete their program. They don't have to stop and change locations or find another college to pick it up at. They can take it wherever they are going," says Site Coordinator Kristi Turner.

Turner says before Troy opened in Tifton, many students had to drive to Valdosta or Columbus to take courses not offered near Tifton.

Troy is mailing out brochures about their new campus and representatives from the college will visit area high schools to inform students.
