Albany -- Lee County economic development officials said Tuesday their outstanding school system was the driving force behind the county's record growth.

At their Chamber breakfast, Lee County honored the High School's 2007 Star Student. Paige Varner was named Star Student at Lee County High School, after scoring the school's highest SAT test score of more than 21-hundred.

She's a member of the school's drama program and tennis team. She chose Robby Davis as her Star Teacher. Varner said "Mr. Davis was the most intriguing, the most sincere teacher I ever had. He taught me how to think, and taught me how to care about issues, and about my education."

Varner will attend Georgia Tech, and is leaning toward public policy as her major.
