For the fourth year in a row, the Ashburn Fire Department received a huge grant from the federal government.

The grant of nearly $104,000 is to help the department better respond to fires and help purchase the necessary equipment to do so.

In the past, the department has used the money to buy firefighter gear and to purchase a new fire engine.

"It's a helping hand to what I consider already a good department. It basically upgrades our technology and maybe instead of having two items, now maybe were able to have four items that we need. Help us do our job better and safely and efficiently," says Fire Chief Brian Meadows.

The Assistance to Firefighters Grant is offered through the Department of Homeland Security.
