Albany-- Monroe High School honored one of its prominent alumni today in a Black History Celebration Assembly. Georgia Court of Appeals Judge Herbert Phipps was the guest of honor at Monroe today.

Judge Phipps says coming back to Monroe is a great opportunity to challenge students to make their personal imprint on history, not just black history.

"My main challenge will be for them to prepare themselves to meet the challenges of their time, so that their part of the story will be positive, and contribute to the history, not only of black people, but to the history of America" said Judge Herbert Phipps with the Georgia Court of Appeals.

February sixteenth was declared Judge Herbert Phipps Day at Monroe in honor of the graduate.
