Ashburn -- The Assistant Chief of the Ashburn Police Department has been fired from his job.

Major Scotty Ireland was suspended from his job as an officer Monday, and yesterday, city officials terminated Ireland for violation of oath of office and misconduct.

This comes the same week after Ashburn's former police chief, Ben Sumner announced his resignation to take another job.

City officials want to put the public at ease about all of the recent changes. "We've already developed a plan as far as lining employees in the police department are concerned. We want to ensure the citizens of Ashburn its business as usual with the police department," said Ben Taylor, City Manager.

Taylor says Ireland has five days to file an appeal to keep his job.
