Buzzard Day

February 8, 2007

Albany - We've all seen them on the side of the road, helping themselves to a tasty lunch. We're talking about buzzards. Want to see them in a much different environment? Now's your chance.

This Saturday is Buzzard Day at Reed Bingham State Park in Adel. Park Ranger Chet Powell brought a Buzzard by our studio at WALB on Monday. Thousands of turkey vultures, along with black vultures are wintering at the park.  He says, "We'll have two pontoon boats taking people up to where they roost and you'll literally see thousands. You'll also see a bald eagle's nest where she's sitting on her eggs, and lots of things besides the buzzards, but that's kind of the focal point for this particular day.  It's a lot of fun. It is kind of scary sounding, probably."

If you're not interested in buzzards, there's still lots to do. You can check out the birds of prey presentation by Chehaw, take out a canoe, even participate in a trail run.
