Albany -- A sorority partners with the Community Health Institute to educate south Georgians about exercise and healthy living. The 12-week program called "Enthusiastically Shedding Pounds" kicked off at Friendship Missionary Baptist Church.
Sessions include healthy cooking classes, exercise, and health education.
Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority members invite you to join them every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday night at the church between 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. to improve your health.
"So many of us make New Year's resolutions to shed pounds, to become more active, and to eat in a more healthy manner, and this is a wonderful opportunity for us to come together to help members of the community achieve that goal ," said AKA Healthwise Community chair Lynderia Cheevers.
"It's just being able to provide tools and resources to people. I was telling them earlier to empower them to find within themselves what they need to become healthy," said Community Health Institute fitness coordinator Susan Nelson.
The program is part of the Community Health Insitute's "Churches on the Move" initiative that involves members from about 25 area churches.
