Thomasville-- Madison Street bridge reopened Wednesday. The bridge was closed for construction over a year ago. The Georgia Department of Transportation and Southern Concrete Construction Company announced the reopening, ahead of schedule.

The unique design and architectural details took time, but make the bridge fit into Thomasville's historic setting.  "We had a real good bridge foreman down here that put a lot of heart into it, did a good job, these walls were real time consuming. Its not a normal wall that you put on a bridge it was all done, it was all hand work," said Graylin Duncan of the Southern Concrete Construction Company.

Since the start of construction drivers have had to take a detour around the bridge. The reopening will cut some drive time for many commuters.
