Thieves hit building sites

February 6, 2007

Dougherty County -- Two construction sites in Dougherty County were burglarized over the weekend, prompting construction managers to increase security on their sites.

The LRA Construction company office building on Upland Court, off South Westover Boulevard, was broken into sometime over the weekend. The thieves stole more than three thousand dollars worth of power tools.

Less than a quarter mile away on South Westover, thieves also broke into the Commercial Construction Company building. They stole a fax machine, a heater, and a box of screws worth about $200.

"It delays our job because we have to go repurchase all these materials and tools before we can get started again, back to work. So it's just more aggravation than anything," says Commercial Construction Owner Gene McCoy.

Both Construction company bosses said they would increase security at their construction sites, and would take anything of value home at the end of the day.

The Dougherty County Police are investigating the thefts.
