Evelyn Benson Russell, 87, of Albany, died Friday, February 1, 2007 at Lee County Health Care.

Her funeral service will be MONDAY 2 PM at Porterfield Memorial United Methodist Church with interment to follow at Crown Hill Cemetery. The Rev. Nancy Scarbrough will officiate.

A native of Cedartown, GA, she had lived in Albany since 1953. Mrs. Russell was charter member of Porterfield Memorial United Methodist Church, a member of the Fellowship Sunday School Class where she served as a teacher and as a president of the class.

She was a member of the Commodore Richard Dale Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, serving as a Past Regent and as a delegate to the national convention. She retired from Civil Service at the Marine Corps Logistics Base in 1981.

Mrs. Russell was preceded in death by her first husband James E. Benson, Sr. She is survived by current husband: Lamar G. Russell, McDonough, GA; a daughter: Marie Knight and her husband John, Albany; 3 sons: James E. Benson, Jr. and his wife Terry, Pensacola, FL, Dr. Gerald M. Benson and his wife Donna, Savannah, GA, Ellis C. Benson and his wife Nancy, Macon, GA; 10 grandchildren: 10 grandchildren: Frances Knight, Davis Knight, Benson Knight, Dr. Bryant Benson, John Benson, Dr. Elizabeth Benson, Dr. Jerry Benson, Jr., Shelbie Wilson, Melissa Mayfield, Zackary Benson; 4 great grandchildren; a sister: Louise S. Alexander, McDonough, GA; niece: Jane A. Downs and her husband David, Marietta, GA.

The family will receive friends at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. John Knight, 1620 Lynwood Ln. on Sunday from 2-5 PM.
