ASA flight fares from Albany are down

February 2, 2007

Albany -- It just got cheaper to fly out of Albany, and airport officials hope business picks up after a slower than usual year in '06.

Delta contacted Southwest Georgia Regional Airport officials to announce a drop in ASA flight fares. Walk-up fares last year topped out near $1,400 to fly from Albany to San Francisco. Now estimates for that same flight are about $300 cheaper.

Local travelers say they're more likely to fly out of Albany with cheaper prices.

"Well I might be traveling a little more now instead of just 3 or 4 times a year, typically on business. It gives me an opportunity to add some more pleasure trips," said Wendy Wilson.

"I think anyone that flies out of here understands the convenience, I mean we have lower parking rates than Atlanta or the surrounding airports. It does not take you as long to go through security. It doesn't take you as long to claim your bag once you get back, and when you get back you're home," said Yvette Aehle.

Airport Director Yvette Aehle says now is the prime time to buy tickets for spring break or summer travel. For flights booked three weeks or more in advance, rate estimates dropped about $100 for many top destinations out of Albany.
