Albany - For the early part of his career, Albany State forward Travon McGruder was the Rams secret weapon.Opponents knew he could rebound but they didn't worry about him being a threat on the offensive end of the court.
McGruder though has proven he can score as well as rebound. So much so that he has a chance to finish his senior season averaging in double figures in both scoring and rebounding.
An honor student with a grade point average of three point four in computer science, Travon McGruder is averaging just over 14 points and nine rebounds a game.
The ASU coaching staff pushing McGruder to finish his career with the impressive milestone but Travon says it won't be easy because everyone in the SIAC knows of his basketball talent.
Travon McGruder said "It is tough because everybody knows I can score on the indside. So, they are going to double me so that I cannot get any rebounds. But I will fight through it and I should get it."
Interim head coach Chris Cameron said "We just try to get him focused on what he wants to accomplish. So far, he has done a great job of doing that this season."
Albany State's next home game is February 13th against Clark Atlanta.
