Congressman Kingston introduces DRIVE Act

January 25, 2007

By Ashley Dudley

Washington D.C. - House Representative Jack Kingston is taking steps to increase US fuel independence.

The Dependence Reduction Through Innovation in Vehicles and Energy-or DRIVE Act-plans to reduce oil imports by five million barrels a day in the next 15 years.

This will be possible thanks current efforts like hybrid cars and technologies allowing fuel to be converted from less conventional items like sweet potatoes and even expired Coca Cola.

Kingston says the DRIVE Act will improve national security and strengthen the country economically.

The bi-partisan act currently has 66 co-sponsors and congress expects the plan to be successful.
