Tifton - - Grand jurors in Tifton say the Tift County Courthouse isn't adequately serving the needs of the county.
Lack of space and out of date technology are making it hard for employees to operate effectively. The grand jury found problems in the county jail and in the offices of the county clerk, district attorney, probate judge, and tax commissioner.
The jury foreman says the county should build a new courthouse or build an annex instead of renovating the current courthouse.
"To put the burden on the taxpayers of Tifton to go in and remodel this facility would just be cost prohibitive we really need to start over, that's what the jurors feel like," says Michael Spinks.
The jury's inspection found the clerk's office isn't big enough to store important documents and they could be destroyed in a fire since there's no fire-proof vault in the current facility.
