Family Fun Run Challenge

January 23, 2007

Albany - In less than two months, runners from all over the world will converge on Albany to run in the snickers marathon. But that's a lot of running, more than 26 miles. So organizers have announced another event for the whole family.

As Southside Middle School students were busy showing off just how they get into shape, marathon organizers announced they will also be hosting a one mile fun run. The run, mostly downhill for you non-runners, will go behind the civic center and finish at River Front Park.

Dr. Jose Tongol, an oncologist urged students to become active now, to avoid health problems later in life. He says, "My mission here is physical fitness. To prevent a lot of problems like diabetes, heart disease, cancer, heart attack. Obesity is the number one cause of deaths, deaths in the US. We need to fight that problem."

You can register for the full, half marathon or the one mile fun run online .
