Stockbridge -- A candidate in the 2006 Georgia Governor's race has died.   Seventy-nine-year old Mac McCarley died of lung cancer Thursday.

McCarley stole the show when WALB-TV presented a statewide gubernatorial debate last July. With his quick wit and straight-shooting answers he amused the audience during that one-hour debate.

He also apparently wooed a lot of voters. He ended up getting 10,000 votes in the Democratic primary.

McCarley's funeral is Monday morning in Stockbridge, Georgia.
