Albany - When the South Georgia Wildcats hired coach Derek Stingley back in the fall, one of their reasons was Stingley's ability to attract some of the top players in the Arena 2 football league to Albany.
And Stingley has certainly delievered with the Wildcats announcing the signing of 28 players Thursday.
The Wildcats are bringing back three of their top players from last season in receivers Alvin Ray Jackson and Blake Saunders and fullback-linebacker James Harris who had ten rushing touchdowns.
The Wildcats are also signed receiver Greg Golden who played with Memphis last season and lineman Sylvester McGrew who was with Manchester and lineman Brandon Washington who played collegiately at LSU and was with Tennessee Valley last year.
Stingley also is bringing in several of his former players from Macon including former Albany State lineman Andre Slappey. A
nother player from Macon, Derek Stingley is trying to bring to Albany is receiver Chavis McCollister.
McCollister joined Macon in mid-season last year and helped the Knights win six of their final eight games.
South Georgia also attempting to re-sign quarterback Julian Reese and receiver Chris McKinney.
The Wildcats open the season at home March 31st against the Arkansas Twisters.
