Tighter restrictions for school contractors

January 8, 2007

Albany--  School leaders took more action to make sure students are protected at school in response to stricter sex offender laws across the state.

The Dougherty County Board of Education will now require all contractors and sub-contractors who do construction work at any Dougherty County school site to submit to a background check.

The measure will give the school system the right not to allow any employee convicted of a variety of offenses including murder child molestation and aggravated assault on any Dougherty County school site.

A waiver could be issued on a case-by-case basis.
