Teen plow pickup under semi-truck in Poulan

January 6, 2007

Poulan -- We have more details about a bad wreck in Poulan last night involving a pickup truck and 18-wheeler. Police say it involved three underage men in possession of drugs and alcohol.

Eighteen-year-old Albany man Barry Wallace driving south on Poulan Shingler Road admitted to police he did not see the semi-truck heading east on Highway 82. He plowed a Chevy S-10 pickup truck through a stop sign and underneath a Wal-Mart trailer around 8:30 last night.

Wallace, 18-year-old Justin Carter of Sycamore, and a juvenile were transported to Phoebe with broken bones and bruises after the impact of the crash ripped the roof off the pickup. The driver and juvenile have since been released from the hospital, passenger Justin Carter remained at Phoebe in fair condition this afternoon.

Several charges are pending against Wallace including underage alcohol possession, minor possession of marijuana, driving with an open container, and failure to yield. The driver of the semi was not injured in the accident.
