Funston-  The man who served Funston as Mayor for 49 years lost this battle with cancer this week.  Eighty two year old Dick Chambers died Wednesday at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital.

Chambers took office as Mayor in 1957 and served up until he entered the hospital more than a month ago. Councilman Ferrell Ruis has been serving as mayor pro tem and will likely remain until the mayor's election next year.

Visitation will be held Friday night from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Cobb Funeral Home in Moultrie. Chamber's funeral will be Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at the Funston United Methodist Church.
